Wellness Newsletter.
I hope that social distancing is going okay for you all so far. That being said, social distancing can be tough! It can seem isolating, lonely, and boring. It is important to remember the importance of keep both our minds and bodies healthy and active while we are at home! Moe and I would like to start up a brief newsletter outlining some recipes, links to fitness routines, yoga and/or breathing exercises to promote the importance of mental and physical well-being while we are home. That being said, we are asking for your help! As peers, we are all in this together. We are wondering if people would be willing to send in easy/healthy/quick/fun recipes to share with your peers, fitness routines, at-home workouts, apps for breathing and meditation (or even games). Things you’ve tried or things you would like to share with other folks. So, anything and everything that you have all been doing to keep your mind and your body healthy and active so far throughout the COVID-19 pandemic! Cancellations.
I just wanted to pass along some information about various extracurricular events and the DDSS elections in the midst of the closures and cancellations due to COVID-19.
DDSS Elections The DDSS Elections will continue as planned, the online survey is still open and will close on Monday March 16th at 5pm.If you have not voted yet, I highly encourage you to do so!The results of the election will be posted Monday evening. Live @ 5 Live @ 5s will be cancelled and remain cancelled as long as the university suspends in-person classes and events. We are following the protocol received from the University President in regards to non-essential extracurricular activities. Grub Crawl As you are all aware, the March 13th grub crawl was cancelled yesterday evening due to the cancellation of non-essential extracurricular activities. The grub crawl may be rescheduled later in the semester depending on if the ban on non-essential extracurricular activities is lifted. We are taking a wait-and-see approach for this event and will provide you with updates when we know more. Toothtacular We are currently working onrescheduling Toothtacular from April 4th to a date later in the semester. This, again, will only occur if the ban on non-essential extracurricular activities is lifted. We believe that faculty and staff recognition is important. That being said, we would still like classes to send their Toothtacular award selections in by March 30th to Hannah MacDonald. In the event that Toothtacular is cancelled this year, we still plan on distributing the Toothtacular awards to the outstanding members of our Faculty and staff. We would advise classes to not proceed on the filming of their Toothtacular videos in order to minimize person-to-person contact. Again, we will provide updates when we know more. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions. Questions about Toothtacular can be directed to Hannah MacDonald.
Hi everyone! It’s the best time of year again! Sharing smiles (& Toothacular!!) are both quickly approaching, and we need some lovely volunteers! For those of you who don’t know what I’m talking about, Sharing Smiles is a day shared between Dentistry/Hygiene students and our lovely participants from all over the province with special needs. There will be games, sports, interactive oral health demonstrations and a pizza party! Anyone who’s volunteered before will surely agree that it is always a blast! The day is scheduled for Saturday April 4th from 10am-2pm. We would like to have a quick meeting in the waiting room of level 1 at 12:00 this Friday March 13th. Please come if you’d like more information and/or you’d like to volunteer. Let me (or Ellen Woodworth) know if you have any questions!! See you then, Myriam Ferron DDS4
